Scapegoat?

Keith Olbermann had on Larry Johnson Tuesday, to discuss the case of Mary McCarthy, who was fired from the CIA for failing a polygraph. Larry talks about the partisans that are running the CIA now.

OLBERMANN: Did the case against Mary McCarthy smell at all fishy to you even before her denial that she was the source of the leak to "The Washington Post"?

JOHNSON: Absolutely. I was one of the first ones out of the box saying that, for several reasons.

If you look at Dana Priest's article, there were multiple sources, many who had ties to the counterterrorism center, that were not identified by name or even very many particulars. But it was clear that wasn‘t Mary's background.

I used to work for Mary back in 1998-'89, and she moved on up into the senior ranks of management, where she was handling-she was at the National Security Council, National Warning Office, other things. So she wouldn‘t have had any of the operational details that were reflected in Dana Priest's article....read on

Keller's Thoughts on DC's Leaking

Keller's Thoughts on DC's Leaking

I've been calling and emailing journalists to try and get their reactions about the possible fallout for reporters since Porter Goss has been polygraphing the CIA for leakers. A certain drumbeat is going around that journalists should be questioned and put into jail. A few at the Washington Post have said, " no comment." One reporter from Congressional Quarterly said: "It would not only be a gross abuse of power but a violation of the very first Amendment."

Fishbowl DC has Bill Keller's full email response:

"Whatever the reason, I worry that we're not as worried as we should be. No president likes reporters sniffing after his secrets, but most come to realize that accountability is the price of power in our democracy. Some officials in this administration, and their more vociferous cheerleaders, seem to have a special animus towards reporters doing their jobs. There's sometimes a vindictive tone in way they talk about dragging reporters before grand juries and in the hints that reporters who look too hard into the public's business risk being branded traitors. I don't know how far action will follow rhetoric, but some days it sounds like the administration is declaring war at home on the values they profess to be promoting abroad....read on"

On Tony Snow

Tony Snow might have said some things against this President in the past, but he is a cultist all the way and don't believe for a second that suddenly this administration will be forthcoming with anything new. It's all just spin. How many times will he say he "can't comment on an ongoing investigation?" He'll have a whole network coming to his defense like no other White House Press Secretary before him.

MSNBC Reports: Rove to testify

(Revised clip has John King attached with Noron's report now.)

ReddHedd:

"Norah O'Donnell reports on MSNBC that Rove will be testifying today before the G/J for a fifth time in the CIA leak case. I have to say that in my experience, this is really unprecedented - I can't ever remember any witness who was also potentially a subject in an investigation giving a prosecutor this many under oath opportunities to skewer them.

"O'Donnell reports that there are serious questions about how forthcoming/honest Rove has been-and that there are potential questions of more legal jeopardy."

Norah does say that there will be a statement issued by Rove later today for what that is worth. John Roberts gives us the "Team Rove" spin in his reporting.

Mike's Blog Round Up

Donkephant: It's your fault gas is so high...on the other hand, maybe not. Remember, Dear Leader calls it an "addiction".

Consortium News: George W. Bush always gets applause when he recites his old line about anyone who harbors a terrorist is equally guilty as the terrorist. But the moral clarity on harboring grows hazy when it's Bush and his family doing the harboring of right-wing Cuban terrorists.

Attytood: Remember when the"fact" that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was able to receive treatment in Baghdad with Saddam's blessing was offered (believe it or not) as another "smoking gun" that Saddam, the secular socialist, was in fact in bed with the Islamic radicals of al-Qaeda? Well...guess what?

The Gaelic Starover: Diplomacy in the 21st Century--as unhinged as what we laughingly refer to as "foreign policy."

Say what? U.S. to Free 141 Terror Suspects! Guess those combatant-status review tribunalsare workin'...

Check out Bush Watch. U.S. and international newspapers, progressive news feeds, op-eds, columnists, cartoons, and more. A great resource.

Fitmas and Rove

Rove to testify for a fifth time. I was just watching Noron on MSNBC and then flipped to CNN. I'll have video shortly.

Late Night Open Thread

Glenn Greenwald's' book is up to # 2 in Amazon. This is really huge in the publishing industry. Glenn hasn't been all over TV and radio doing promotion like John Meacham and Hugh Hewitt (#4,761) has in the past few weeks. It's just been us. (C&L, Atrios, FDL, Daily Kos and all the other progressive blogs that have linked it.)

If you can-pre-order a copy-please do. # 1 sure sounds good.

SNL Funhouse: "Conspiracy Theory Rock" '98

Moveleft found this gem about GE and the war machine:
"This cartoon "Conspiracy Theory Rock" by Robert Smigel was shown on "Saturday Night Live" during the March 14, 1998 broadcast but edited out of reruns. For that broadcast, the host was Julianne Moore and the musical guest was the Backstreet Boys.
