(Rachmaninoff - One of the last of the Big-Time Romantics)

Apologies for not getting this up last night. Technical glitches were running a marathon yesterday and everything seemed to freeze every time I touched it. So . . . .we're a little late on getting the Mid-Week Concert up.

But no worries - it's a good one tonight (today) - The St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad) Philharmonic conducted by Yuri Temirkanov and featuring Denis Matsuev, piano. In a concert recorded by Radio France at the Theatre de Champs-Elysees on November 20, 2005 during their European tour.

This post is the all-Rachmaninoff part of the concert, featuring the Piano Concerto Nr. 3 and the last orchestral piece Rachmaninoff wrote, the Symphonic Dances. As has been the case the past few weeks, the announcements are in French, but have been edited down to save time.

Here's the program below:

Théâtre des Champs-Elysées : Rachmaninov, Rimsky-Korsakov, Prokofiev
