We haven't run anything on LBJ in a while, so I thought I would include this Press Conference from June 1,1965, President Johnson's 43rd since taking office.

A number of areas are covered, most notably the situation in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, which was the scene of recent military action. Also covered was the situation in Vietnam and the 20th Anniversary of the United Nations.

A complete half hour of Q&A as broadcast by ABC Radio on June 1, 1965.

Starting off the Month of June with a bang in 1980.

First, it was the economy - with reports that the Recession had come back with a vengence on top of double-digit inflation. Still, no tax cuts in the foreseeable future.

The GOP Presidential race was now down to one with George Bush dropping out and leaving the field open for Ronald Reagan. This ahead of Super Tuesday.

Fears of racial unrest surfaced when news of the assassination attempt on Urban League President Vernon Jordan, shot in the back by a sniper's bullet came to light. The fears were allayed when it was learned Jordan survived the attack and was doing well, but a stepped up investigation and search for the sniper was underway.

Some in South Korea were blaming the U.S. for being behind the recent violent crackdown on dissidents there. The U.S. vehemently denied any role or influence on the moves, even though the U.S. Ambassador and Military Adviser were not held in high esteem with the people of South Korea.

The hostage situation continued in Iran with a shift in political power signified by the opening of Parliament and a majority of members aligned with the Khomeni regime. The fate of the hostages was now in Parliament's hands.

And despite faded hopes for finding some 50 missing people in the wake of the eruption of the Mt. St. Helens volcano, 75 year old Ray Jennings and his four dogs surfaced relatively unscathed.

And that's how this month got started, June 1st 1980 as reported on The World This Week from CBS Radio News.

First day of June in 1981 and the Haywire Season is in full swing. President Reagan invites Democrats in Congress to a sit-down and lip-service for his new tax-cut proposal, the message being "my way or the highway", but making it look good for the cameras. In the rest of the world - fighting spirals out of control in Beirut. Naim Khadar, the PLO Representative in Belgium is gunned down in Brussels. Bangladesh crushes a coup and South Africa celebrates 20 years as a White-ruled Republic at a cost of $90 million and more troops on the streets of Durbin than onlookers.

Meanwhile, back in the States - The Teamsters gather for the 22nd National Convention opening in Las Vegas and The UMW scrambles for votes of approval in the wake of a new contract proposal for Coal Miners. Former Congressman Carl Vincent passes away at the age of 97. Pianist Andre-Michel Schub wins the 6th Annual Van Cliburn Piano Competition in Texas and The Supreme Court rules people have a Constitutional Right to dance nude in public.

And now you know.

But don't take my word for it, it says so on the CBS World News Roundup and Hourly News reports from June 1, 1981.
