In 1986 Christmas Meant Iran-Contra!

Twenty three Christmases ago, beginning in November, the Iran-Contra Affair was bubbling to the surface. Stories of secret arms caches, money laundering, clandestine operations, deals - all the stuff of mediocre spy novels.
But alas, it was the Reagan Years, so anything could be and was possible.
Ike Pappas (CBS News): “Secord spent less than fifteen minutes in the closed hearing room. Enough time to listen to opening statements and then claim the Fifth Amendment, refusing to answer questions as have several other key players in the case. Secord, now a businessman is said to have helped to arrange the Iran arms sales, and has been linked in documents to the clandestine privately financed network that sent arms and equipment to the Contra rebels in Nicaragua when Congress cut off funds.”
These two news reports from December of 1986 give some indication where this all was headed. 1987 was promising to be a fun year. Sandbags and all.

Politically, it may have been a sucky year, but I got my first BJ, my first hand in a woman's vagina, and lost my virginity. So, all in all, not so bad a year!!
The late 80's were my high-school years. And I dare say Iran/Contra barely registered on my radar. Everyone was so oblivious to what was going on.
It wasn't until YEARS later that I started paying attention, and learned the specifics of what happened.
Briefly, Reagan wanted to send money to the Contra's (Nicaraguan rebels) to buy weapons. The Democratically controlled House (where money is appropriated) said No. So Reagan, as "Commander-in-Chief", simply ordered 10,000 (iirc) American troops be loaded to the gills with guns and ammo, land on the beach in Nicaragua, drop all their weapons, and come home... thus completely bypassing the will of Congress.
The "arms for hostages" deal was separate from the Contras. But when dumping weapons on the beach wasn't enough for St.Ronnie, he sold weapons too big to carry/dump on the beach, to Iran to raise the BIG bucks to finance his private war there in South America.
I'm trying to imagine if President Obama pulled a stunt like that today to bypass a Republican Congress. They'd impeach him faster than you can say "Monica Lewinski".

You see what goes around comes around and since almost ALL the same players are in place from Iran-Contra you have a better understanding of the Iraq invasion and the Taliban.

Yeah , I remember this disgrace, but you notice the Main Steam ENTERTAINMENT Media hasn't mentioned it, oh yeah they are sound bytes and entertainment.
