On December 17th 1941 it was 10 days after Pearl Harbor and the country was gearing up for what would become the long haul. Fighting was going on all over the Pacific region and news reports on this day try to keep track of what was happening with varying degrees of results. Heads were rolling in Washington over who was "asleep at the switch" in Pearl Harbor and the Pacific Command was revamped and replaced quickly with heads lined up on the chopping block before any investigation got underway. Despite everything the universal feeling was to keep Christmas going and even the Mayor of San Francisco declared all celebrations would go on as planned. Not even a war was going to stop people from jamming local department stores, even if they were blacked out.

A day with more questions than answers and a December 17th more confusing than most.

Rep. Michele Bachmann, one of the most outspoken conservatives in the House, has won an appointment to the secretive House Intelligence Committee.

Hows that for confusing.

if that's a joke, it's not funny.

Her to STFU!
"Members of the Intelligence panel receive classified briefings in a secure conference room in the Capitol, and are sworn to secrecy about most of the committee's activities."

It'll be interesting to see how she reacts now.

going to have to start inflicting some serious fear on these idiots soon or later before they destroy the country. Or whats left of it.

mudshark's picture

Give them enough rope, and they'll hang themselves.
Just look at the First responders bill. Or all the earmarks they swore to curtail, then stuffed full of earmarks. While the majority of the population is quite ignorant, A sizable portion of them do come around sooner or later. They realize that slamming their head against a wall does hurt after a few hrs.

No they won't , if they have not hung themselves by now it isn't going to happen , their supporters are cult members , absolute cult members and they hold their " leaders " accountable for nothing .

Would hear her saying upon exiting the "secure conference room":

"Humina....humina....humina....but.....but....but....", eyes glazed over. "Buh...buh...buh...".

After 9/11, I don't think anyone went to the wall over their negligence. Condi Rice, who was in charge of national security, was promoted to Secretary of State.

Bush promised to bring a new era of personal responsibility. No one, as far as I know, was ever held responsible for any of the disasters that sprang from his leadership.

No heads rolled after Sept 11th. There weren't even any calls for heads to roll. Buush got a pass.
Then, the GOp refuses to help out the 1st responders.
Sit back, relax, you have now stepped into....... the twilight zone.

On December 17th 1941 September 21, 2001, it was 10 days after Pearl Harbor the "terrorist" attacks on the World Trade Centers 1, 2 and "7", the Pentagon and the Shanksville, Pennsylvania "crash", and the country was gearing up for what would become the long haul the "Global War on Terror".

Fighting was going on all over the Pacific region Middle East and news reports on this day try to keep track of what was happening with varying degrees of results. Heads were NOT???!!! rolling in Washington over who was "asleep at the switch" in Pearl Harbor and the Pacific Command the FAA and the North Atlantic Air Defense Command Centers.

NOTHING!!!! was revamped and replaced quickly with heads lined up on the chopping block before any investigation NEVER got underway.

Despite everything, the universal feeling was to keep Christmas going and even the Mayor of San Francisco New York City, declared all celebrations would go on as planned.

Not even a war was going to stop people from jamming local department stores, even if they were blacked out.

As a matter of fact, the President solemnly smirkily requested that the American people do the true Christmasy thing and, "Go shopping! Shop 'til you freakin' DROP!!"

Uh-huh.

Churchill was in mid-Atlantic on course for Washington D.C. that December 17th, concerned that America's thirst to avenge Pearl Harbor would pre-empt a "Europe first" strategy. He need not have worried.

First birthday plus 69 = 70 17 Dec 1940

But you're still OK in my book [for future generations, the predecessor to the iPad]. {iPad: ancient primitive device, the engraved clay tablet of its age.].

As my alter ego Walter Sobchak said about the Viet Cong, you're a worthy adversary. Go to Reelz Channel and search Lebowski. Pick Dude! That's me with the piece pointing it at Naibe Reynoso at the bowling alley in Long Beach in October 2007.

Try the whole top of the Government. A friend of the family worked in the White house at that time. She said that for two weeks before Pearl, the whole top of the Government was running around like a chicken with its head cut off (her expression) because the Japanese were on the way to Pearl.

It hasn't been a big secret. If I remember right it was because we had long broken the Japanese code. I'm not sure of the chronology since I have seen several different time lines through the years.
