Social Distortion's music can always be depended on to get me jumpin'.  I wouldn't think about going to the firing range without some Social D songs on my iPod. Along with X, these guys were always the most powerful, angry and melodically compelling of the L.A./O.C. punk bands. My  favorite Social D songs are still "Ball and Chain," "Let It Be Me," and "Story of My Life."

In 1981, when I was a dj in San Francisco, Posh Boy sent me a test pressing of "Mainliner" and I'm pretty sure I was the first radio dj outside of L.A. to play their music. When they started having commercial success in 1990, Mike Ness' songwriting was better than ever. Here's "Story of My Life" from their eponymous third album.
