Secret Recording Of Dinesh D'Souza By His Lover's Husband Might Sink Him
April 23, 2014

Dinesh D'Souza's chance at beating his criminal case took a turn for the worse when it was revealed in the NY Times that a secret recording was made by his lover's husband which would prove he was complicit in illegally using straw donors to contribute to a 2012 New York Republican Senate campaign:

Prosecutors also said they had obtained a copy of a recording made surreptitiously last October by the husband of a woman Mr. D’Souza was involved with romantically around the time of the donations, when Mr. D’Souza was separated from his wife. In making the recording, the husband was not acting at the government’s direction, prosecutors said. The woman, Denise Joseph, was one of the alleged straw donors.

Ms. Joseph was recorded as saying that Mr. D’Souza had told her that if he were charged he might plead guilty, but would initially plead not guilty because that “gives him a window of opportunity to get his story out there,” the government said. Ms. Joseph had no comment, her lawyer said.

I sure would love to get my hands on the recording, people. It's not nice to sleep with somebody else's wife as he's finding out, but I thought Christian conservatives didn't engage in that behavior? Oh, right...IOKIYR. This destroys his case his lawyers have been making, that he's being prosecuted because he's an anti-Obama conservative.

Mr. Brafman has filed court papers contending that the government “targeted” Mr. D’Souza “because of his consistently caustic and highly publicized criticism” of President Obama.

That defense will work well for the wingnut base and Fox News, but not with the law.

Mr. Bharara’s office said Mr. D’Souza’s illegal conduct came to light as a result of a review by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s New York office of campaign filings of both parties for the seat held by Senator Gillibrand, “rather than through any investigative focus on the defendant himself.”

TPM:

The woman, Denise Joseph, was one of the two alleged straw donors D'Souza used to funnel $20,000 to the Senate campaign of Republican Wendy Long, who challenged Sen. Kirsten Gillbrand (D-NY) in 2012. The donations led to D'Souza's indictment in January on one count of making contributions of more than $10,000 in the names of others and one count of causing false statements. D'Souza has since maintained his innocence.

With D'Souza's trial a few weeks away, The New York Times reported Tuesday on a dispute that has played out in court papers over whether the case was politically motivated. D'Souza's attorney has argued that his client was "targeted … because of his consistently caustic and highly publicized criticism" of President Obama. Federal prosecutors have called the idea "entirely without merit," and have argued that D'Souza knew what he was doing was wrong.

D'Souza has been embroiled in many scandals at this point which started when he was ousted from his cushy and lucrative college gig because he allegedly was engaged to one woman while still being married to his wife.

Now it emerges that he is engaged to a young woman and still married to his wife. How quaint. Why, that sounds like an openly liberal lifestyle, if they've both consented. What would you call that? Being a hypocrite, maybe?

Anyway, his life outside his movie is crashing down on him, and he has now stepped down as president of King's College amid much speculation.

It's a very embarrassing story about the woman that he's been involved with, Denise Odie Joseph II.

TPM reminded us that Dinesh wouldn't even answer a question about who he's actually married to.

D'Souza told Business Insider he had no comment on Joseph's donations. He also declined to answer a question about whether he was currently married to either woman.

This is one bizarre man with bizarre tastes who won't tell you who his wife is. But, you know: Benghazi!
