It took long enough for Sheriff Joe to weigh in on the border issues, didn't it? But when he did, he did it with the usual hefty dose of stupid.

We begin with the obvious: Sheriff Joe is very, very angry with Mexico because Mexico is not very happy about Governor Dick Perry sending National Guardsmen to the border. Mexico's objection is a fair one. They believe militarizing the border is not the answer to a humanitarian crisis.

But Sheriff Joe? Oh, he's so angry about it he could spit nails. Really angry. So angry, in fact, that he thinks the Border Patrol should rush right over the border and just take over -- bilaterally, of course.

The Daily Caller thought it was worth transcribing, so I'm going to use theirs rather than watch it again:

“The National Guard isn’t going there with machine guns!” he began. “It’s a support-type operation that Governor Perry has the courage to do.”

“We should be across the border!” he exclaimed, noting he used to work “hand in hand” with Mexican authorities during his time at the DEA. “Why can’t we send the Border Patrol — or the military — across the border to work in a bilateral situation.”

“I can’t understand why they are afraid of the National Guard in the United States at the border. It doesn’t make sense . . . but it does make sense. They don’t like anything we’re doing here.”

“If they were neighborly they would do something in Mexico and crack down on the drug traffic and illegal immigration, instead of criticizing our country all the time!” he charged.

“Why don’t we take away some of their foreign aid . . . to help us pay for this operation?” Arpaio continued angrily. “That’s good neighbors.”

My conclusion: Arpaio is just aching to go shoot him some brown people. Because he's a tough guy.

As an aside, when Sheriff Joe claims he was head of the DEA in Mexico, he's just blowing it up a tiny bit. When he retired, he was top DEA agent in the Arizona office, which is sort of a distinction without a difference. To hear him talk, you'd think he was running the whole drug cartel war in Mexico City.

But that's how he rolls. Lots of talk, lots of hate, no balls to back it up.
