Mo'Ne Davis Leads Taney Dragons To Victory In World Series Opener With A 4-0 Shutout

In their first game in Williamsport for the Little League World Series, Philadelphia's Taney Dragons shut out South Nashville for the win.

I kept telling Amato, "You have to see this kid pitch." Now he's a believer.

Today, Mo'Ne Davis did it again. In their first outing at Williamsport, she brought the heat, pitching another complete game that makes it back-to-back shutouts. (One for the record books: First shutout by a girl in LLWS.) Slugger Jared Sprague-Lott pumped out a three-run homer in the first inning, and the rest is history.

The irony is, the Taney Dragons Little League team is succeeding against the odds. Our city playground maintenance has been cut to the bone, and so has our public school budget, where most of the Dragons attend school. (They couldn't even afford uniforms, they had team T-shirts. The Phillies raised money last week to help pay for the trip to Williamsport.)

Philly's schools superintendent just announced another $38M cut necessary to allow the schools to open on time next week.

So when Gov. Corbett congratulates the Dragons on their first World Series win, let's put that in some kind of context. Fuck him, go Dragons!

Taney Dragons play again on Sunday, 7pm EST on ESPN2.
