I was alerted to the disappearance by a tweet from “RyanP is just waiting for justice.”
Sure enough, the two 2019 Democratic reports are missing from the “Reports” section on the House Oversight Committee’s website. It would be an understatement to call them damning. Fortunately, the two reports and an appendix were all saved and uploaded to docdroid, apparently by RyanP.
News reports at the time were pretty disturbing, too. In May, 2019 NBC News detailed how, after the Saudis murdered Jamal Khashoggi, Trump’s secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, declared an emergency and bypassed Congress, “in a move that drew condemnation from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle,” in order to rush through billions of dollars of arms sales to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. and other Middle East allies.
In June, 2019, NBC News reported that the Trump administration approved the sale of “sensitive nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia twice after the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.”
Saudi Arabia plans to build nuclear power plants with help from U.S. companies, but so far it has refused to agree to safeguards to ensure it does not develop nuclear weapons, including a prohibition on uranium enrichment and reprocessing spent nuclear fuel.
The February report notes that Michael Flynn seems to have profited from this deal in what looks like a blatant conflict of interest. He was an advisor to the company that wanted to build the nuclear plants in Saudi Arabia at the same time that he served as Trump’s national security advisor during the presidential campaign, the presidential transition and he continued advocating for the company’s plan even after joining the White House as national security advisor. Yet, he left a lot of relevant information about that off his security clearance renewal application, the investigation found.
Trump pals Thomas Barrack and Paul Manafort were also involved.
