Fox News host Shannon Bream pushed back on Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis after he claimed that his state had not banned books in schools.

During an interview on Fox News Sunday, Bream told the Florida governor she had recently spoken to a group of women about the targeting of LGBT students by his policies.

"I was at a gathering of women the other night, very informal, off the record," Bream explained. "But one of the women said, I think it's terrible in Florida that they're banning books. She has a child who is in the LGBTQ community and said, I don't want my child to go somewhere like that. I think that they're afraid."

"And the message that they've gotten is that teachers will be punished for talking about non-traditional families and families like hers," the Fox News host said.

DeSantis responded with a denial.

"Well, first of all, there's not a single book that's been banned in the state of Florida," he claimed. "That is a media hoax. To take a book out of a fourth-grade classroom that's pornographic because it's not appropriate for kids of that age, it's not banning the book."

Bream noted that the books were banned from schools.

"But banned from certain classrooms and age groups," she said.

"Well, but you have to make decisions about what's appropriate for curriculum," DeSantis replied. "We would have never said, even 10, 15 years ago, that it was appropriate to have X-rated material. Some of these books are X-rated."
